March 1, 2019 by Front Desk

Good Gorilla is very pleased to announce that we have two new Community Managers, Abby Ho and George Dover!

Abby previously was a member here with Project 40 Collective and is a visual artist/community arts organizer. While George is an aspiring comedian/writer working on a podcast/webcomic project. He use to run Rover’s Dog Walking Tests out of the Good Gorilla Space.

Since joining us less than a month ago, they have been adapting into our community with full speed. Thanks for giving them the warmest smile while welcoming George and Abby to the jungle!

A Message from the Gorillas

January 1, 2019 by Kassem Ahmed

Photo of the three co-owners at the annual dinner party

It has been a little over a year since we’ve doubled the square footage of the space. Once we tore down the wall of the old meeting room, there was an instant growth of amazing individuals (and dogs) from various industries. New-comers were welcomed with open arms. Former members came back with stories and treats of their travels. Ideas were exchanged. We’ve observed several collaborations take place while creating new opportunities in this shared-economy.

We are excited for the new year. We will be having new community managers enroll in the first quarter. We will also have a design intern join us to keep the space a welcomed, well-designed creative space for you!

Our goal has always been to create an environment for creatives to create their best work. Everyone in and around our space has contributed to this.

Members come and go, but the relationships we have built in the last three years are timeless. This community is built on friendship, kindness, support, and feedback. It is our privilege to be part of this ever growing family.

We hope you pass some lovely holidays, refresh, and come back for another exciting year.

Copyright Law Workshop For Creatives

May 2, 2018 by Kassem Ahmed

Banner of Copyright Law WorkshopToday’s digital media makes it very easy to share, publish, and consume work. However, this accessibility blurs the line between what’s fair to use and share or what others can use of ours. Understanding the importance of copyright and intellectual property is vital to anyone pursuing a career as a creator.

This 2hr workshop is aimed at those wishing to be introduced to the knowledge of general copyright law and practice and is recommended for all creators: visual artists, designers, writers, and photographers.

What You’ll Learn

Lecture format with Q&A

  • The meaning of terms that commonly appear in contracts
  • Terms that apply to various forms of copyright licensing when selling the rights to illustrations, photographs, graphic design work, etc.
  • Gain confidence in dealing with contracts connected to the selling of their creative services and works
  • The lecture will clarify the confusing legal jargon often frequently found in contracts.

Who It’s For

Anyone who licenses images for reproduction or is in the business of selling the copyright to their work. Primarily illustrators, photographers and graphic designers, although copyright laws apply to any creative endeavours.

Land Rights Acknowledgement

We wish to acknowledge this land on which Good Gorilla operates. For thousands of years, this is the sacred territorial land of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
