New Year, New Faces

We feel very lucky to be able to work with talented and creative people every year. Our community managers always strive to provide not only a warm, but the most welcoming experience for everyone who passes through our space. This year, we have a new face in the space!

Say hi to our new Community Manager, Jessie Ho!

Jessie is a freelance writer and social media strategist. She splits her writing between editorial content and copywriting—reviewing the latest beauty products one day, crafting blog posts and social media captions for clients, the next. Based in Toronto, she previously spent two years living and working in Hong Kong and has been plotting where to go next ever since.

Recent Loves

To Watch: Witcher on Netflix was an amazing binge — I love fantasy shows for the irresistible combination of escapism and sheer imagination. I also watched Little Women when it came out on Christmas Day, and it was the perfect movie to end off the year with.

To Read: Currently, I’m splitting my time between Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino (witty commentary on being a human in the age of the internet) and Exhalation by Ted Chiang (speculative fiction on humanity’s place in the universe). So, I’m either going to start off the year enlightened or with a big fat existential crisis.

To Listen: At the moment: anything from a ChilledCow playlist is great.

Projects (& In Progress)

I started freelancing for real in 2019 — this year, my focus is on growing my capacity for remote work by taking on clients from different cities in the world. I’m still treading that sweet spot between content and copy, which means my writing gigs run the gamut from beauty and lifestyle, to software tech to marketing strategy to travel. I’m always happy to chat about lending my words to your project or brand, so hit me up!

Creative Inspiration

This is so cliché, but Instagram is my go-to source, especially for a dose of ~aesthetic~. A very few of my favourite accounts, in no particular order: photographers @hurtingbombz and @margaret_zhang, multimedia artists @revolvingstyle and @labyrinthofcollages, and fashion designers @alexandermcqueen and @the.peterdo.

I also have a soft spot for print magazines. Off the top of my head, Design Anthology, The Gentlewoman, and tmrw magazine are definitely worth checking out. And as for digital media, basically anything on ManRepeller is excellent.

Kickstart Motivation

A quote from When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi: ”You can’t ever reach perfection, but you can believe in an asymptote toward which you are ceaselessly striving.”

Land Rights Acknowledgement

We wish to acknowledge this land on which Good Gorilla operates. For thousands of years, this is the sacred territorial land of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
